Port of Suape (Brazil) announced the largest port leasing project under the Federal Government's Partnership and Investment Program (PPI). The second container terminal (Tecon II) underway will increase the handling capacity of Suape from 700 TEUs to over 1.5 million TEUs per year. Port of Tacoma Commission approved a total investment of $197,500 for the 2019 Local Economic Development Investment Fund. This program is one of the many ways the Port of Tacoma works to encourage economic development and promote international trade, tourism or infrastructure efforts. The Port of Virginia has celebrated the end of construction at Virginia International Gateway. Following more than two-and-a-half years of construction, the VIG project came in ahead of schedule and under budget.

The Northwest Seaport Alliance has earned Inbound Logistics magazine’s 75 Green Supply Chain Partner honors for the third consecutive year. One of six U.S. port authorities selected, the NWSA was recognized for its efforts to reduce seaport-related emissions through the Clean Truck Program, installing shore power at terminals, retrofitting cargo-handling equipment, and investing in new, cost-effective stormwater treatment systems. A major Port of Oakland freight hauler is ready to take the next step with battery-powered trucks. GSC Logistics said it would acquire two more electric big rigs by October. The port’s largest trucker said it wants to discover if zero-emission tractors can haul cargo containers over highways.
 
JAXPORT has achieved a record number of container and auto moves during the first three quarters of fiscal year 2019. During this time, JAXPORT moved nearly one million containers, a six percent increase over the same period last year.

The Port of Long Beach has released a draft update for its Port Master Plan, a document that defines long-range goals and policies for land use and development at the nation’s second-busiest seaport. The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey has released the Port Master Plan 2050. The 30-year plan takes a holistic look at the port, including cargo container facilities, automobile terminals, dry and liquid bulk cargo operations, cruise terminals and ferry landings, mapping out the next generation of land-use and infrastructure development projects and allowing the port to remain among the nation’s leading maritime gateways.
