The Police Department (PAPD) of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey welcomed 83 new police officers to its ranks following the graduation on July 28 of the 115th Police Academy class and a swearing-in ceremony at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck (NJ). The Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department’s dive team is working with federal and Philippine maritime law enforcement agencies to strengthen and develop training for underwater searches and disaster incidents in the Philippines.

The Charleston Marina at the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay aced its recent Clean Marina Inspection, with a perfect score of 44 out of 44 points. The Port of Corpus Christi has earned Green Marine Certification by Green Marine in recognition of its exemplary performance in environmental management and leadership. A Port of Oakland-based trucking operator plans to test battery-powered big rig technology here in September. Potential benefits include lower operating costs, no diesel exhaust and quieter rides.
 
"Port Houston has already handled nearly 20 million tons of cargo this year, reflecting an increase of 13 percent from the same period last year," reports Executive Director Roger Guenther. Container volume increased by 14 percent and steel by nearly 50 percent from year-earlier levels. Mexico’s port system processed just over 150.1 million metric tons of cargo during first half 2017, a 4.2 percent from last year, according to "preliminary" data compiled and reported by the federal port agency, Coordinación General de Puertos y Marina Mercante. 
 
 
   
The Port of Bellingham has completed a $500,000 project to replace the 45,786-square-foot roof on Warehouse 2 at the Bellingham Shipping Terminal. The roof was past its design life.

The Port of San Diego has received national accreditation from the American Public Works Association (APWA). The program recognizes public works agencies that exceed the requirements of the management practices established nationally in the public works industry, as contained in the APWA Public Works Management Practices Manual.
 
The Port of Corpus Christi has been recognized as a "StormReady Community" by the National Weather Service.
 
A Prince Rupert public waterfront walkway will reopen after more than a decade, the result of a $1.1 million rehabilitation project that will begin this summer, thanks in part to a C$835,000 financial commitment by the Prince Rupert Port Authority. The Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council (RTC) has awarded the Port of Vancouver USA a $485,000 grant for construction of a multimodal path at Terminal 1 on the downtown Vancouver waterfront.

Leal joined the Port of Galveston staff August 1 as director of engineering, maintenance and environmental affairs.  Kerry Gerot takes over August 15 as head of the Communications and Community Relations Division at the Port of Long Beach. The governing board of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey on August 3 elected Kevin J. O'Toole chairman and approved Rick Cotton as the new executive director of the bi-state agency.
