Carnival Cruise Line has signed an agreement with landlord Urban Commons and the City of Long Beach to expand the Long Beach Cruise Terminal to accommodate larger ships and enhance its terminal operations. The deal will nearly triple the size of the facility Carnival now leases from 66,000 to 142,000 square feet.
 
 
   
The Ports of Indiana and Trois-Rivières Port Authority have formed a marketing partnership that will conduct a study of maritime shipping opportunities and potential supply chain connections between their Lake Michigan and St. Lawrence River facilities.
 
Port Canaveral has received A2 ratings from Moody’s Investors Service on some $32.715 million in proposed revenue refunding bonds series 2016C (AMT) and $27.045 million in 2016D (non-AMT) issued bonds. The agency based its determinations on the port’s strong position in the cruise market; cargo growth; stable finances and proactive capital plan management. Port of Oakland operating revenue remained steady in FY 2016 despite the bankruptcy of a tenant terminal operator. The year-end total of $338 million beat the previous record, $336.6 million in FY 2015, by 0.4 percent.

The Port of Seattle has completed the environmental analysis of Terminal 5 and prepared the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) on the project to modernize the cargo-handling facility in order to serve larger cargo vessels.
 
The California State Lands Commission and the San Diego Unified Port District have agreed to develop a pilot marine planning partnership in San Diego County. Their intention is to ensure meaningful public participation, accountability, transparency, and a science-based process for adaptively managing ocean resources.
 
 
   
A back-up power generator made of recycled crane components successfully completed its first real world exercise during Hurricane Matthew, keeping JAXPORT's main office near downtown Jacksonville connected with tenants, customers, employees and the community during the storm-caused power outages.

Port of Los Angeles container volumes this September increased 2.4 percent from a year ago to 747,707 TEUs. Year to date, container traffic totaled 6,368,107 TEUs, up 4.1 percent compared to January – September 2015. The September container count for the Northwest Seaport Alliance shows increases from a year ago of 3.7 for full imports and 5.8 percent for full exports. Year to date 2016, volume remained flat, down less than 1.0 percent to 2,657,481 TEUs due to reduced empty and domestic container traffic. The Port of Virginia reports container traffic at its Hampton Roads terminals totaled 226,896 TEUs in September. That was up 2.0 percent from September 2015 and gave Virginia its eighth consecutive month with volume in excess of 210,000 TEUs.
