Solar panels the Port of San Diego is installing on the roof of its primary cruise ship terminal are expected to offset approximately 70 percent of the building’s energy consumption and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 187 metric tons annually.

Port Everglades and its cruise line partners, Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International, are working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to launch two pilot programs designed to expedite secure entry into the United States following a cruise vacation.

SeaLand, the Maersk’s Group’s Intra-Americas regional ocean carrier, is bringing its new Atlantico service to the Port of Wilmington. Atlantico will complement SeaLand’s revised SAE service, which already calls the North Carolina port.

The first ship carrying autos manufactured at a new KIA plant in Monterrey, Mexico, is due to dock at the Port of Philadelphia on July 3. Loaded at the Port of Altamira, the approximately 1,000 new KIA automobiles will be driven ashore from the brand new car carrier Glovis Sirius at the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal. Crowley Liner Services has entered into a 10-year, $157.8 million lease and operating agreement with the Broward County Board of County Commissioners for a 99-acre marine  terminal at Port Everglades. The Sept-Îles Port Authority has served Champion Iron Mines Ltd. with a notice of arbitration under the mechanism provided for in the port’s multi-user dock contract. The port authority says it has been "unduly burdened by significant and unexpected financial costs" because of Champion’s refusal to make the buy-in payment in 2013 and "is seeking to protect its interests and those of the contract’s other partners by reminding Champion of its responsibility to fulfill its contractual obligations." 

Officials from the Port of Los Angeles and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) on June 20 celebrated the official grand opening of the newly configured I 110 (Harbor Freeway) access ramps in the port’s Wilmington area. The completed construction project—which also includes key roadway modifications—is expected to significantly reduce congestion at a key, multi-point intersection near port terminals.

The Port of Longview is seeking expressions of interest in a waterside terminal consisting of two docks and upland areas that became available following the expiration of a lease agreement with the former operator/tenant. The port is primarily interested in responses to import or export bulk cargos, but will consider opportunities for other marine-dependent uses.
