Governor Mike Pence has called on the Ports of Indiana to "vigorously explore" building the state's fourth port. It would be located on the Ohio River in southeastern Indiana.

Crews under contract to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, have begun dredging roughly 2.6 million cubic yards of material from the Baltimore Harbor and Channels navigation project under a $25.6 million contract awarded this past fall. The objective is to ensure continued safe navigation in and out of the Port of Baltimore.
 
 
   
StreamLines N.V. is adding Port Canaveral as sole U.S. port of call to its Blue Stream weekly liner service between Central America, Europe and the Caribbean. Seven Laker freighters are spending their winter layups at the Port of Duluth-Superior, providing eight weeks of work for maintenance and repair crews.
 
The Port of Long Beach recovered from systemic congestion and cargo diversion in the first quarter to deliver one of its strongest year-end results on record, topping 7.0 million TEUs for just the third time ever. Containerized import volume at the Port of Oakland in 2015 was essentially unchanged from 2014, down just 0.2 percent after dropping nearly 40 percent last January and February, according to data newly released by the port. Some 26.4 million metric tons of cargo moved through private and public marine terminals at Port Saint John in 2015, an increase of 10 percent compared to 2014. Especially dramatic growth was experienced by the port’s container and dry bulk trades. Port of Virginia container traffic reached a record total of more than 2.5 million TEUs in calendar year 2015, an increase of 6.5 percent from 2014. Year-on-year increases were also posted for truck and rail volumes, total containers, and general cargo tonnage.
 
 
   
The Hawaii Department of Transportation Harbors Division recently completed beta testing Hawaii.PortCall.com, a web-based vessel scheduling system that allows cruise itinerary planners to view the availability of berthing space when reserving passenger ship visits at any of the Harbor Division’s commercial ports. Port of New Orleans cruise terminals processed 1,023,700 passengers in 2015. That was up 1 percent compared to 2014, giving the ports its fifth consecutive record year and its second year in which the passenger count topped 1.0 million.

Forty-nine workers have been added to the local longshore casual list at the Port of Grays Harbor (PGH) to meet the labor needs of the port’s expanding and increasingly diversified cargo base.
 
Denis Caron took the helm on January 1 as president and chief executive officer of the Belledune Port Authority (BPA). He succeeds Raymond Doucett, who retired December 31 after 10 years in the position. The St. Louis County Board has reappointed its longest serving commissioner, Steve Raukar, to a third term on the board of the Duluth Seaway Port Authority. Originally appointed to the port authority in 1998, Mr. Raukar currently serves as its president. The Port of Seattle welcomed its newest commissioner, Fred Felleman, as he took the oath of office along with reelected Commissioner Courtney Gregoire at the January 12 meeting of the port commission.
 
A newly released study projects that full implementation of the Prince Rupert Port Authority’s development plan could generate almost 5,000 new jobs in northern British Columbia directly related to port activity, with corresponding increases in wages and tax revenues.
 
The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey will commit $1.2 million to supplement the $9 million the agency expects to receive in federal grant funding to assist operators of the oldest trucks serving the bi-state seaport to buy newer, more environmentally friendly vehicles.
