Some amenities, like a pool or a package room, are standard these days. That’s not to say you shouldn’t have them, but they won’t make you stand out and they won’t elicit much excitement from prospective residents. So what amenities can your apartment community offer residents that put you ahead of the competition? What do your residents want and, more important, what will they actually use?

Every company goes through growing pains. They can be challenging, yet exciting. "Get A Grip" is feeling some growing pains right now. We’ve just broken ground on a new building – we’ve outgrown our office and warehouse space! And we’ve added people to the team to help us keep up with the growth. We’re also adding new products – hence the need for more space. New people and products, a new facility, too tight space – it all adds up to good problems for a business to have. No matter what size your business is, growing pains are common. So here are some lessons we’ve learned to help you work through this time of opportunity and challenge.

This week, House Financial Committee Republicans released a summary document outlining their vision for reform and reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). With the program set to expire on September 30, 2017, NMHC/NAA has been working with lawmakers on a bipartisan and bicameral basis to ensure that the NFIP is reauthorized on a long-term basis and that affordable flood insurance remains available at all times, in all market conditions for every at-risk rental property. Additionally, NMHC/NAA have called for reforms of the program that will increase its ease of use, better mitigate the risk held by multifamily properties in flood prone areas, and continue to lessen pressure on taxpayers in the wake of a disaster.

Cornhole isn't just for tailgaiting. If you are unfamiliar, cornhole is a game in which small bags filled with dried corn are tossed at a target consisting of an inclined wooden platform with a hole at one end. And the volunteers on the Membership Committee at AANM have created a fun and unique opportunity for networking and good-hearted competition.

As you may recall, in December 2016, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved legislation by a 10-0 vote that requires owners to grant building access to communications service providers when a resident requests such services (codified as Article 52 of the San Francisco Police Code). If a resident requested broadband services from a particular provider, an owner would have very little recourse to prevent the provider from installing equipment in the building and servicing the resident. The ordinance would have serious implications on contractual agreements between owners and providers and interfere with operators’ ability to deliver high quality broadband services to residents.
