Education sessions were the stars of the day Tuesday at the North Pacific Regional Conference & Trade Show, the largest one-day conference and trade show in Northern California. The 12 education sessions offered, including "New Safety & Security Laws and Trends in Hospitality" and “Landmines to Avoid When Hiring Workers,” had nearly 400 attendees at the free event, co-sponsored by AAHOA and the California Hotel and Lodging Association. The trade show also was a big hit as the 125 booths saw spirited activity.

In the Market

SunTrust Robinson Humphrey reports, “Upper Midscale (+2.3%) was the strongest chain scale for branded hotels; Upscale was the weakest at +1.0%. Midscale (+1.1%) underperformed the industry average. Last week was a relatively clean comp. We noticed modestly stronger Group RevPAR (+4.9%), which could be partly driven from some catch-up following the extended Spring Break season in March and April. That being said, while overall results were a bit better than recent trends, there was nothing too spectacular about last week's results and in our view fairly reflective of a normal run-rate going forward (using +1.5% as a base RevPAR +/- 150 bps for a normal week).” For more, read the full report.
