The planning committee just met, and with Conference Co-Chairs Gregory Bostick, SUPERVALU, and Andrew Moreau, Strive Logistics leading the way, our 2014 committee looks to provide yet again another great event.  
The conference theme,"Bridging the Gap," will have sessions you won't want to miss. 

Extensive networking opportunities starting with morning and afternoon golf rounds on Sunday the 23rd, Sunday lunch for all, return of First Time Attendee Reception, Sunday reception and dinner, Monday conference sessions, Monday reception and banquet dinner, ending with Tuesday morning's conference sessions on the 25th, are essential to making the most of your time at the conference.

We are pleased to maintain our conference rates at our previous level of $750 per attendee for shippers and receivers and $975 for per attendee for all other attendee types. Conference attendance will be limited to 900 in total. 

The Food Shippers of America 2014 Annual conference will be held at the JW Marriott Grand Lakes in Orlando FL, February 23-25, 2014.

Food Shippers of America has secured a discounted room rate for registered conference attendees of $229 per night plus tax.  While we have increased our room block from last year, rooms are available on a first come/first served basis, and the discounted room rate can only be applied through use of the link provided. Securing room reservations is the responsibility of the attendee and is not included in the conference registration fee.

Prices for both diesel and gasoline continues to fall in the U.S. this week, according to data tracked by the Energy Information Administration (EIA), while the cost of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) critical to the proper functioning of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) emission control technology on heavy trucks remained relatively stable.

Aries Freight Systems came to Brownsville because of opportunity — and to save some money.
The Houston-based logistics, transportation, warehouse and distribution company had an office in Pharr for a couple of years before Emanuel Velasco, district manager, and Regional Account Manager Annalicia "Ani" Velasco came to the conclusion that Brownsville was a better place to be from a logistics and transportation standpoint.

The Federal Transit Administration requests comments on a range of topics related to safety in public transportation systems, especially rail systems. The 2012 Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act gives the FTA authority to regulate public safety in all forms of public transportation, but the agency plans to focus on rail systems first.

According to a study by Georgia Tech researchers, the advantages of electric versus diesel depend largely on how the trucks will be used—the frequency of stops and average speeds—and the source of electricity for charging batteries. In city driving with frequent stops, the electric trucks clearly outperform diesel vehicles, while diesel vehicles show better efficiency in suburban routes.

United States Cold Storage, Inc.
USA Truck Inc. of Van Buren has filed a breach of contract lawsuit against Knight Transportation Inc., the company that is attempting to take over USA Truck.

The lawsuit, filed in Crawford County Circuit Court, alleges that Knight "improperly" used USA Truck's confidential information "to begin a creeping hostile acquisition of USA Truck at a price that the board has unanimously concluded does not reflect the company's full intrinsic value," according to a statement from USA Truck.

Georgia’s transportation efforts haven’t been affected much by the federal shutdown. But the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) faces a "fiscal cliff" in 2015 if Congress doesn’t act within the next year, says Commissioner Keith Golden.

For the third consecutive year, Lynden Transport was selected as one of the top national motor carriers by Inbound Logistics magazine and included in its annual Top 100 Truckers list. Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management awarded Earl Congdon Jr., executive chairman of the board of Old Dominion Freight Line Inc., with the Harry E. Salzberg Medallion.

The Salzberg Medallion is presented during the annual Salzberg Memorial Program, which gathers industry leaders together to share insights, trends and innovations in the field of transportation, logistics and supply chain management. The Salzberg Medallion recognizes individuals for significant accomplishments in supply chain management. Established in 1949, it is the oldest award of its kind, and has come to be recognized as one of the most prestigious awards in the transportation industry.
