Leadership Academy
CCBO's Leadership Academy provides top education and professional development specifically tailored for business officers. This year in Palm Springs, twenty-two business officers gathered at the Leadership Academy to gain valuable knowledge, skills, and support. Before the conference program officially started, the students learned valuable leadership skills from faculty experienced in community college business offices.

Six blocks of educational sessions at this year's conference covered a wide range of topics—from paperless purchasing to bookstore surveys to the Affordable Care Act to risk management. Business officers from community colleges across the nation led these sessions to teach, share, and discuss different problems on their campuses, and how they resolved these problems.

Education
Professional development is supposed to give us a fresh look at our profession....give us time to consider ways of innovating and solving problems. If you were one of approximately half of our members who attended this year’s conference in Palm Springs, I hope you were able to "Find Your Oasis", as this year’s conference was titled. Personally, I enjoyed learning from our keynote speakers about disruptions in higher education and changes in preferences among the generation of students now entering college. Don’t forget to surprise your student services administrators and staff by using terms like "blurring technology", "rational exuberance", and "trust lust" in the next few weeks. I especially enjoy doing this as I have a background in enrollment services and financial aid.

The most recent CCBO conference in Palms Springs, CA is officially over. The attendance was great, the speakers were great, the weather was great, all the programs were great, the food was great, the business partner exhibits were great... I guess that you get the point, we had a great time. Annual conferences provide wonderful opportunities to renew friendships and explore potential new business partner relationships. It’s also the time that volunteer leaders explore and discuss new directions for the association and set in motion the course for the next year.

From the live drummer at the pre-conference reception to the daring adventure to the mountain peaks, the CCBO conference attendees enjoyed their time in Palm Springs. Really, all you need is the pictures to prove it. The reception at the Masters Plaza on Saturday evening set the festive mood for the rest of the conference.
