CCBO's Leadership Academy provides top education and professional development specifically tailored for business officers. This year in Palm Springs, 22 business officers gathered at the Leadership Academy to gain valuable knowledge, skills, and support for their leadership at their respective community colleges. Before the conference program officially started, the students learned valuable leadership skills from faculty experienced in community college business offices.

On Saturday, the faculty taught the first year students about the fundamentals of being a chief business officer, how to effectively create a management team, and about risk management. Meanwhile, the second year students learned how to further develop their own personal careers and how to work effectively and navigate their relationships with the Board of Trustees.

On Sunday, the first year and second year students participated together in activities on how to interact and work together with other leadership roles on their campuses, specifically community college presidents. The group then got to interview a panel of CCBO Past Presidents.

"The 2013 CCBO Leadership Academy graduates are outstanding leaders who will leave a significant and positive impression upon the community colleges that they will serve throughout their careers," said Dr. Ron Rhames, CCBO Leadership Academy Dean. "The ten graduates were highly engaged and professional in their experience with the Academy. The graduates not only learned from the Academy’s outstanding faculty, they learned from each other. Our Community Colleges’ financial and business management futures are in excellent hands."

After Leadership Academy commenced, the participants enjoyed the CCBO Conference in Palm Springs and attended educational sessions, networking events, and the exhibit hall. The Leadership Academy participants were then recognized on Tuesday evening during the Awards Banquet. Twelve first year students received certificates of completion, and ten second year students received plaques signifying their completion of the program.

The first year Leadership Academy students will graduate at next year’s Annual International Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
