It's been quite a while since AIA Georgia has made any changes to our bylaws – since 2005 in fact! In the last decade our profession and the world’s technology have seen many changes – with culture and relationships, with the way AIA National operates, with communications options, and with the time and resource capacities of architects themselves. At our AIA Georgia Annual Business Meeting in Athens on November 13 members will consider and vote on a major set of revisions to your bylaws. We hope you will attend and be part of the conversation.

Many of you have already received an eBlast and a direct mail piece from AIA Georgia regarding changes to your 2016 AIA Georgia (state) dues. The good news is that your dues level is not changing, and will remain at their 2015 levels. However, your dues will include $10 earmarked for the AIA Georgia Political Action Committee (PAC), meant for 2016 contributions to selected elected officials who influence legislation that affects the architecture profession. You have the right to Opt-Out of this $10 amount, and instead have it go to our general operating account and support other AIA Georgia activities. You have until March 30, 2016 to exercise this option by following the steps on our website.

AIA calls on members to join the Advocacy Network as Citizen Architects. Whether you are looking to make a difference in your local community or advance leadership across the spectrum of government, institutions, or neighborhoods, identifying as a Citizen Architect allows AIA to recognize your service through programs such as the citizen architect award, and to provide the tools you need to make the impact you desire.
