NRMCA Leads Effort on Capitol Hill to Oppose Timber Threat

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

The Stop the Timber Innovation Act (TIA) Coalition, headed by NRMCA, continues to meet with members of the Senate Agriculture Committee to communicate our opposition to including the TIA in the 2018 farm bill. Working closely with coalition partners that include the Portland Cement Association, American Concrete Pumping Association and Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute, NRMCA is lobbying against efforts by the wood industry to establish an annual taxpayer-funded Tall Wood Building Prize Competition.

Most recently, the House version of the farm bill that includes some research directives contained in the TIA but does not authorize a Tall Wood Building Prize Competition failed to pass. The Senate Agriculture Committee is expected to release draft text of the Senate farm bill this week or early next week and the committee is expected to consider the bill before the end of June.

It is vitally important that your senators hear from you. If you have not signed the online petition, please click here to send your senators a message asking them to OPPOSE including the TIA in the farm bill. For more information, contact Andrew Tyrrell at atyrrell@nrmca.org.
