US Office of Management & Budget Approves NG9-1-1 Valid Request Data Collection

Recently, the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approved data collection by the FCC for NG9-1-1 valid requests under its new NG9-1-1 rules. As of March 25, 2025, 9-1-1 Authorities may submit valid requests to OSPs for delivery of 9-1-1 traffic in Internet Protocol (IP)-based formats, including i3-based call origination, in accordance with 47 CFR § 9.31.

This enables 9-1-1 authorities able to comply with the FCC’s certifications to require standards-compliant NG9-1-1 calls to be delivered to their jurisdiction. To help 9-1-1 authorities understand the rules and the valid request framework, NENA and ATIS produced the 9-1-1 Authority Readiness Guidelines for NG9-1-1 Connectivity technical report.

For more information, see the FCC’s notice. You can also download a sample form for submitting valid requests.

If 9-1-1 authorities have any questions or need guidance, they can email NENA's Chief Technology Officer, Brandon Abley.
