This scholarship opportunity is open to any 9-1-1 telecommunicator, call taker, or dispatcher with at least one year of experience and in good standing with their current employer.
Supervisory and other managerial personnel are not eligible for this award.
Previous annual-conference scholarship recipients (ex. Gold Line, Women in 9-1-1) are not eligible for this award.
Each Telecommunicator Continuing Education Scholarship recipient receives:
To be eligible for a scholarship, you must complete and submit the scholarship application and provide a current resume. Any answers you provide in the "short answer" section of the application must be written by you without any AI or "chatbot" assistance.

NENA: The 9-1-1 Association today announced that Sarah Bal, CAE has joined the NENA staff as the association’s Vice President of Education & Training. In this role, Bal oversees the development and delivery of the association’s in-person and online education programs, ensuring 9-1-1 professionals receive industry-best training at every stage of their careers.
"At a time when so much is changing in 9-1-1, Sarah brings a fresh vision and unique skillset to this position," said NENA’s CEO, Brian Fontes. NENA: The 9-1-1 Association today announced that Gary Bell, ENP has joined the NENA staff as the association’s Committee Resource Coordinator. In this role, Bell supports the NENA Development Group's (NDG) standards-development activities, aiding in the creation of essential resources for the 9-1-1 community. His responsibilities include guiding NENA documents through the NENA and ANSI (American National Standards Institute) processes, mentoring new members of the standards-development community, and ensuring the NDG continues to thrive.

The ANSI-approved NENA Standard for 911/988 Interactions provides recommendations and best practices to help callers who are experiencing mental health crises. It outlines operational and technical considerations for ECCs/PSAPs to establish an effective working relationship with the 988 community.

The Monitoring Association (TMA) Standards Committee has received confirmation from ANSI that the Public Comment Period for its TMA-ATN-01 Monitoring Center Notification of Active Threat Detection is officially open through April 1, 2025.
The standard outlines a uniform approach to handling active threat events, acknowledges, integrates various detection technologies, and provides detailed guidelines on record-keeping, data management, and process monitoring. The goal of this standard is to significantly enhance the synergy between the security industry and public safety, fostering a safer environment through more informed and rapid responses to active threats.
