State of 911 Webinar: Next Steps in Reclassifying Public Safety Telecommunicators
Tuesday, March 10th at 12PM ET Click here to register! Roles and responsibilities for public safety telecommunicators have evolved drastically over the years. As emergency communications centers transition from a legacy environment to Next Generation 9-1-1, those roles will continue to change. In the most recent Standard Occupational Classification (SOC), the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) made the decision to not reclassify Public Safety Telecommunicators' role as Protective Service Occupations (as opposed to administrative/clerical occupations). The SOC is a federal statistical survey which relies solely upon a prescribed process that collects specific data to classify more than 800 occupants. To enable the 9-1-1 community to work within the requirements of this system to reclassify Telecommunicators, it is important to understand the BLS SOC process and the objective data utilized. This session will provide background information on the BLS SOC, and specifically on a template job description that could be used by local/state 9-1-1 agencies to provide the data necessary for BLS SOC reclassification using the BLS SOC process; and a call for action. Volunteers Wanted
There are almost 1,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) per day in the United States, with an average of only 10% of those patients surviving to hospital discharge. For a patient in cardiac arrest, every second matters, with their chance of survival decreasing by 10% for every 60 seconds CPR and AED interventions are delayed. The actions telecommunicators take can make the difference between life and death. The standard developed by this working group will provide guidance to PSAPs on programmatic and performance benchmarks that will strengthen the Chain of Survival and telecommunicator performance, which are essential to save more lives from OHCA. Volunteers with knowledge of PSAP operations, EMD, QI, training, CPR, Resuscitation Science, and related areas are encouraged to participate. Meetings will be held via conference call at least bi-weekly on a day/time to be decided by consensus of the working group. Join here! Over the course of the last four months, TRAINFO has been conducting research with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to quantify the impact that blocked railroad crossings have on emergency responders and to evaluate the effectiveness that predicted train occurrence and duration information can provide to the emergency response process. Early results of the research have supported the need for predicted train occurrence and duration information in the emergency response process. Additionally, the results are showing the most effective place in the emergency response process to inject this information is at the dispatch level. To support the research, TRAINFO, on behalf of the FRA, is seeking members from the emergency communications agencies to participate in an interview process to evaluate the best use of predicted train occurrence and duration information in the emergency response process. The interviews are expected to take no longer than 15 minutes and will serve to evaluate if the early results of the research are a trend, or if they simply represent outlier scenarios. Interested parties should contact Neil Ternowetsky before March 15, 2020. Featured Job Openings
