Join Trish McFarlane, CEO of H3 HR Advisors and author of several blogs on human resources issues including Women of HR, on a podcast from earlier this month. With guests Charles Cagle and Bill Vellante of Infor, these three experts discuss the boom of 'people tech' and how organizational leaders can be the catalysts for what she calls a 'true digital HR transformation'.

On October 11, Perkins School for the Blind launched an online course in partnership with Harvard Extension School titled "Introduction to Inclusive Talent Acquisition". This news has taken many by surprise — why is a school for people who are blind setting out to instruct an audience of hiring managers and recruiters? But the connection is strong, because helping students make the transition to adulthood and living independently is a key priority for Perkins.

For many students, leaving Perkins is like jumping off a cliff. One day they are in a welcoming, supportive environment with extensive resources—and the next they are essentially on their own. And it’s particularly difficult when inadvertent barriers have been set up between HR professionals and these qualified candidates eager to connect with them.

With Harvard Extension School’s expertise and support, we set out to create an engaging and actionable online course that equips hiring managers and recruiters with the tools to attract, interview, and onboard candidates with disabilities. This includes PEAT’s own TalentWorks tool, which provides key resources to help hiring managers and recruiters ensure that the technologies that they are using are as accessible as possible to jobseekers with disabilities.

As the Northeast's largest HR community, we can make this transition easier for graduating students of Perkins - and, indeed, these subjects can be applied to any number of diversity hiring initiatives. Sign up for the free online course, and make a difference in your local HR community!

There’s an unfortunate misconception that corporate healthcare is a dry subject. Is it an easy topic to tackle? Absolutely not. Healthcare, an industry that comprised 17.5% of the national GDP in 20141, is so complex that it brings rise to the "Let’s don’t and say we did" mentality. But boring? No. At least not anymore.

There is, in fact, so much creativity in the industry that it’s difficult to know where to begin telling this story: the story of the evolution of modern healthcare. While we do consider ourselves game-changers in corporate health and wellness, we called in an external expert to give you the full, unbiased landscape of creative thinking in this space.

2020 Onsite Optometry sat down with Willis Towers Watson to delve into this subject. Learn more and get some helpful do's and don'ts by downloading the eBook below.

On a daily basis we are all placed in countless situations that require us to behave a certain way. As we mature, we receive both positive and negative feedback that helps shape who we are, but how do we know if the behaviors we are naturally drawn to are helping us to achieve our goals or somehow getting in our way?

Erinne Tripp, Director of Client Services at MCG Partners, tells us how individuals can increase their self-awareness and improve how teams relate to each other.

Are you new to working with a recruiter? Here's a tip from the recruiting staff at PSG: Be prepared to tell your story.

A "get to know you" meeting with a recruiter is different from a coffee date with friends. The recruiter needs data and detail to fully understand your situation. Before meeting your recruiter, take a look at your resume and add detail -- go back and research it, if necessary -- about the dates of each job, the salary, and any helpful details about your accomplishments.

Strategies for Phasing Out Performance Appraisals:
How to Create a System That Improves Performance

Cost: Members - $499, Non-Members: $699

The pressure is on for HR to introduce new thinking on a practice long overdue for change. Performance management should and can drive performance and business results. HR is poised to create a system that engages everyone, boosts organizational results and creates a strategic advantage. Your prime goal in 2016 should be to fix performance management, regardless of your industry, geographical location or size.

Objectives and Takeaways:
  1. Explore the reasons behind why the continual redesign of legacy processes such as ratings and review forms continue falling short of expectations.
  2. Alternatives to managing pay and performance without the use of performance appraisals and ratings.
  3. Clearly see your high, mid-level, new-developing, low results-good behaviors, mid-high results/disruptive behavior and low results/low behavior employees without using ratings or performance reviews.
  4. Re-shape and strengthen manager and employee communications with more frequent forward-looking dialogue [versus reviewing past performance].
  5. Acquire proven communication strategies designed to socialize alternatives to performance appraisal, involve your change sponsors and influence change resisters.
