Tree Farm Woodland Operating Committee

This is not a drastic change from who we are today. Rather, this is our next evolutionary step and will provide us focus for our work, clarity of results, and will help us build stronger support both financially and through our volunteer network. What is most exciting for me about this is—as a Tree Farmer—these are the benefits (wood, water, wildlife) that I want out of my woods too. So we will be aligning our work to support the goals landowners have for their woods while meeting larger society and community goals.

You may be wondering: what does measurable impact, at scale mean? What might this mean for my State Tree Farm program? We are now working through the details of this, developing a strategy for success on this broader vision, and will be seeking your input throughout (Tree Farm Committees in the south—make sure you complete the survey we just sent you on southern forests to get your input!). What we do know is the work that you, as ATFS leaders, have done over the last few years through State Voice-State Choice, is absolutely foundational to now taking this next step. We also know that in taking this next step, addressing our capacity needs is essential, an effort being led by our Volunteer Network Director and Manager, Vicki Leigh and Sara Anrrich.

We aren’t done yet with defining this vision or the exciting work ahead, so there will be plenty of additional opportunity for input along the way. Please stay tuned for future updates as we shape our future together!

Thank you for all you do for the American Tree Farm System and for America’s woodland owners.
