Economics, Environment and Education in West Virginia

The course relies on a wide variety of learning approaches including lectures, discussions, field trips to forest industry sites, and exercises involving development of classroom materials. The two goals of the course are to: (1) enhance understanding of important economic issues, and (2) aid in developing lesson plans that can be used to bring economics to life in the classroom.

Field trips: During the summer week at Canaan Valley, the teachers participate in several field trips to forest products industry sites, including a logging operation, a sawmill, and the giant paper mill at Luke, Maryland.

Lecture: Each year a notable person speaks to the participants in a special program one evening during the week; this year, State Forester Randy Dye made this presentation.
