SIC Meets
In reviewing the SFI Activities (by WVFA) Report, the general consensus of the SIC was that WVFA was "much improved" and the Program is "on track" after its first year. By unanimous SIC decision, the SFI Coordinator was asked to draft another MOU between the SIC and WVFA, for the term Jan. 1, 2016, to Dec. 31, 2017, (two years) at the same annual rate as the previous MOU.
Mona Griswold reported upon the WV Tree Farm Committee, as it Chair. The Committee recently participated with representatives of the ATFS to craft a strategic plan that will be implemented to improve the Program. The committee has chosen the Certified Pathway.
The proposed new WVFA website was discussed and Frank Stewart reported that the cost will be substantially lower than first anticipated. The total amount ($1,000) allocated in the 2015 WVSIC budget may be more than required. The committee discussed that this amount would cover costs incurred to develop the Tree Farm page attached to the website.
The remainder of the meeting was focused upon updating the SFI Logger Training Module, relative to the new SFI Standards. The existing PowerPoint was reviewed and suggestions made about additions and eliminations. Update ideas are to be submitted by the Sept. 1 deadline. The committee also discussed including a standard set of handouts to be distributed at the training sessions.
