Through this extension, AWP is expected to increase its lumber production by 50%, from 20 million board feet annually to 30 million board feet. To maintain this increased level, the company is looking to add a total of 25 jobs to the plant—increasing employment by over 50% at that location.
"AWP has certainly been a major player in the hardwoods industry in this state. It is great to see these companies and this deep-seated, traditional West Virginia industry continue to thrive," said West Virginia Hardwood Alliance Zone President Robbie Morris.
The expected completion date of the gas line is September 1, 2015, which will allow the plant to add new shifts and employment by the fall of this year. This new extension will allow AWP to replace its current diesel powered kilns with cleaner, more economical natural gas, increasing productive capacity.
"An added benefit is that the fuel comes from right here in the Marcellus region. This project is good for the hardwood industry, it is good for AWP, and it is good for the people of Preston County," Baylor said.
