The company was formed in 1971 when Terry Yates and Stan and Gordon McMunn opened their first store in Dauphin, MB. Since then it has expanded to include stores across Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Northwestern Ontario. The company now consists of 18 lumberyards, two flooring stores, two roof truss manufacturing plants and a concrete plant.

In addition to his leadership of McMunn & Yates, Yates’ contributions to the community include serving as both a board member and president of the Dauphin & District Chamber of Commerce, as well as vice- and acting chair on the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba board of directors.

"I’m honored to receive this diploma," said Yates.

Yates will receive an Honorary Diploma in Business Administration at the ACC Parkland Graduation in Dauphin on Friday, June 10.  ACC awards honorary diplomas to those who demonstrate excellence in their personal and professional accomplishments. Past honorary diploma recipients include Carmel Olson (2012), David Baxter (2013), Jim Treliving (2014), Harvey Armstrong (2014) and Mildred Murray (2015).
