Wnet PayTech News
September 14, 2021

I hope you are able to join us at two special events this month. The first is a Wednesday, September 22 webinar, Stories, Struggles and Successes, with three of the co-founders of Wnet: Diane Faro, Linda Perry and me. We’ll talk about why we started the only nonprofit for women in the payments industry, why that’s important for you right now, some lessons we have learned along the way and what our future will be for the next generation of paytech leaders. The second is the final PayTechWomenLead of 2021, featuring Wnet Director Stacy Hughes of Global Payments sharing defining moments in her life that helped her personal and professional career growth. The Wnet community has so much to celebrate during this, our 15th anniversary, and it would be wonderful if you could be part of those celebrations by joining us at these events! Let's come together to make connections.

We are excited to celebrate Wnet's 15th anniversary at the Wnet Leadership Summit. We can't wait to gather together again, safely, this November in Atlanta!

We have an amazing lineup of speakers planned for four General Sessions:

  • World-renowned motivational speaker Nancy Lieberman, president/CEO and co-founder of Nancy Lieberman Charities. As a coach, author and sports broadcaster, she knows all about navigating the ranks of a male-dominated industry. Nancy's session is underwritten by Fiserv.
  • Author and networking expert Kelly Hoey will speak about forging powerful relationships in a hyper-connected world.
  • Grace Klopcic, partner at McKinsey & Company, will present McKinsey's Annual Women in the Workplace Study results.
  • Vivian Greentree and Leslie Pearce, both SVPs at Fiserv, will discuss how to invest in others during a fireside chat.

Check out the expert industry speakers for the Pre-Conference and Breakout Sessions!

The Summit Agenda is full of past favorites (Silent Auction – with an online twist!) and new events that will help you invest in your lifelong learning, your wellness and your financial success.

New PayTechWomenLead presented by Wnet, Featuring Stacy Hughes and Andrew Luca, Sept. 23. Register Now!

By Wnet Board Director Liz Pike, managing director, Green Rhino Recruiting

Chicago, Wednesday, July 21, 2021 – MidWest Acquirers Association (MWAA) and Chicago Wnet Chapter co-hosted a Wnet event that included two hours of inspiring speakers, interactive networking and catching up with friends. Founder and Board President Emily Smith spoke about her nonprofit, Female Strong, and 12-year-old Jorie talked about how the Young Entreprenuer Academy (YEA!) taught her to commit, manage her time and start a business – Hopes & Dreams Dreamcatchers. YEA is a 24-week program that takes girls through pitching their business ideas to CEOs from billion-dollar organizations.

After a networking break, Elise Gelwicks, founder & CEO of Eleview, spoke about what “networking” really means – building relationships and trust while adding value to each other.

MWAA has a lot of first-time attendees, and many of those attendees, men and women, made their way to the Wnet event. We had more than 50 attendees, and it was a great way to kick off the MWAA Conference!

Wnet DEI Corner Hispanic Latino IG Kathy Kmiotek Quote

What Does Inclusion Mean to You?

New Series with Wnet Inclusion Group Chairs

Kathryn Kmiotek    Interview with Kathryn Kmiotek, channel marketing strategist, BillGO

Part 1: Interview with Hispanic/Latino Inclusion Group Co-Chair Kathryn Kmiotek

Wnet:  What does inclusion mean to you?

Kathy:  Inclusion to me is being part of the decision-making process. Often combined with diversity and equity, inclusion is the equivalent of being “asked to dance” at a party.  When you are asked to dance, not only invited to the party (diversity), you are being given the power to make a decision, to become part of the conversation that will drive that decision.

Inclusion is where your voice is heard, where your ideas and experiences are taken into consideration.

Wnet:  What has been some of the value of having an employee resource group within your organization that is aligned with the inclusion group of Wnet? If your company does not have an ERG, where do you find value or how do you create it?

Kathy:  At Global Payments, there were a variety of ERG groups. I had the privilege of being a part of Global Payments Women’s Network (GPWN) and the champion that launched the chapter in the Melville, New York, office. They did not have a Latino(a)/LatinX ERG, but did recognize Hispanic Heritage Month – which begins tomorrow, Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 – by highlighting team members during that time. There was great value in GPWN in a company as large as Global Payments. It exposed you to different team members in a variety of areas of the company, and you were able to interact with many that you would not normally as part of your job function. It was a way of creating a level of inclusion organizationally.

At BillGO, which is much smaller, there are no ERG groups. Much of the value is built into the culture of the organization and values it supports as its mission. They do this even at the executive leadership.

Wnet:  What are some of the ways you see our Wnet Inclusion Groups (IG) broadening the networking and mentoring opportunities for our members and sponsors?
