The Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance provides financial assistance to help deserving young individuals pursuing education in college or technical education programs that may lead to the transportation construction industry. VTCA is seeking submissions from Contractor Members for the VTCA Contractor Safety Awards. VTCA proudly encourages its members to implement and maintain programs providing a safe work environment for their employees as well as the general welfare of the public who travel through their work zones. 
 
All Contractor’s Erosion and Sediment Control Contractor Certifications (ESCCC) issued to date will no longer be valid as of July 1, 2025. The premature end is effective regardless of the date shown on the certification card.

CW Barger once again hosted two quarry tours for 5th-grade students from Central Elementary School as part of the earth science curriculum. The tours were held on March 25 and 27, and 72 students and their teachers attended the tour of the Lexington Quarry.
 
The Engineering Consultant membership of VTCA is represented by the Engineering Consultant Leadership Committee (ECLC). The committee consists of a minimum of nine members who serve three-year terms in three staggered groups of three. Three new members join every year and three either rotate off the committee or move into one of the two leadership positions of the committee. 
The Contractor Leadership Committee is currently soliciting VTCA Contractor members interested in serving on the committee.  The committee will replace three seats that are set to expire this summer.  If you are interested in serving on the committee, please submit your interest or nominate another VTCA Contractor member by May 16.

National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is a yearly event dedicated to spreading the ever-important awareness of roadway work zone safety. Thanks to support and involvement from organizations and individuals like you, the message of safety continues to grow each year.
 
On April 18, 2024, MSHA published the Respirable Crystalline Silica Rule, also known as the “Silica Rule”. MSHA will begin enforcement of the Silica Rule in 1 (one) year, on April 8, 2026, for metal/nonmetal mining operations. Enforcement will commence this month for coal mines.
