In 2023, VTCA tasked the Virginia Tech Center for Economic and Community Engagement to conduct a study highlighting the economic impact of Virginia's aggregate and industrial mining industries to increase policymakers' and localities' understanding of the importance of the industry.

It is now all about the budget. The legislature’s money committees will release their budget next Sunday. The House and Senate will work over the next several weeks to produce a mutually agreed upon budget that, if passed, will go to the Governor for final consideration. There is potential for additional transportation funding if legislators can work with the Governor on the Alexandria entertainment district.  
 
In this article, we will highlight some bills and then list all the bills we are tracking for our members to review.

ATCS, a leading transportation and infrastructure consulting firm, announced that Brennan Collier, AICP, in her continued capacity as Senior Vice President, will now also serve as Strategic Sales Lead.
The workshop consists of an optional, online, half-day classroom lecture and a half-day Method 9 field testing and certification. The online classroom portion is a self-paced lecture that will take about two hours and must completed prior to the field session.

The U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division’s Baltimore District Office, Richmond District Office, and Pittsburgh District Office are proud to present this free webinar for federal contractors and workers in the construction industry.
DEQ has completed a significant initiative to modernize and streamline its manuals and handbooks for construction stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control. These references, some of which date back to 1992, are being updated, clarified, and consolidated into a single handbook.
Over the past two years, VTCA Aggregate Producer Members have had to react to localities that wanted to restrict or eliminate mining within their jurisdiction. VTCA and our members have so far managed to stave off any significant detrimental language in the regulations.
 
The latest installment of “whack-a-mole” comes from Augusta County. Recently, Augusta County has submitted a proposed zoning ordinance revision for the Board of Supervisors to consider.
Over the past two years, DEQ has been working on the required periodic review and renewal for the Virginia Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (VPDES) General Permit Regulation for Nonmetallic Mineral Mining 9 VAC 25-190.  The existing permit is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2024 and will be replaced with the revised general permit.
