The report, “Keeping Virginia Mobile: Providing a Modern, Sustainable Transportation System in the Old Dominion State” examines Virginia’s road and bridge conditions, congestion, traffic safety, economic development, and projects and programs completed or underway to improve the transportation system.
 
This year’s Engineering Consultant Forum drew participation more typical of pre-pandemic times.  The 425 folks registered included roughly 75% industry and 25% government. During the Forum, VTCA Transportation Engineering Awards were also announced.

The VTCA Workforce Taskforce will be conducting a meeting on November 8 in Culpeper, VA at the Culpeper Technical Education Center (CCPS) to connect VTCA Members with the representatives from the Northern Virginia and greater Fredericksburg regions programs.
VTCA's Executive Vice President Gordon Dixon, Communications and Membership Manager Kayla Singleton, and Aggregate Producer Program Manager Rob Lanham joined the NSSGA Legislative and Policy Forum on Capitol Hill on September 24-27. Along with an information-packed conference the Forum also included legislative visits for state legislators.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and James River Equipment is partnering with Susan G. Komen to raise awareness and funds to save lives. Every 14 seconds, somewhere in the world, a case of breast cancer is diagnosed - a sobering statistic. Nearly everyone we know has been impacted or knows someone impacted by this terrible disease.
 
James River is asking for your help in their "We Dig Pink" campaign to raise $25,000 or more for Susan G. Komen this October.

Virginia Energy and VTCA recognize individual miners who achieve milestones without any lost time accidents. Individual employee safety awards are presented to persons who reach fifteen, twenty, twenty-five, thirty, thirty-five, forty, or forty-five or more consecutive years in the mining industry without a lost time injury during the calendar year.

Earlier this year, the MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) Norton District welcomed Brian Dotson as the new District Manager. As noted in an earlier Blue Top Article, Mr. Dotson was recently in MSHA’s Pineville Kentucky District. The meeting was held at E. Dillon’s Quarry and offices in Sword’s Creek, VA.
MTBMA, along with MWRTBA, FHWA DC, DC Water, WMATA, DDOT, VDOT, and local academia, are excited about the upcoming 2nd Annual DCQI (District of Columbia Quality Initiative) conference. 
  
VDOT’s Legal Operations Supervisor in the Business Integrated Solutions Division contacted VTCA inquiring about conducting the division meeting at an aggregate operation. This is a group within VDOT that probably doesn’t get out in the field too often to see the core function of VDOT of building and maintaining roads.
