At this event, you’ll have a chance to hear from the District Engineer Tabitha Crowder, PE who will provide a strategic overview of the Bristol District.  VTCA’s Gordon Dixon will then moderate a panel of industry leaders who will share perspectives from VTCA’s three primary member sectors: Contractors, Engineers, and Aggregate Producers. The program will wrap up with an interactive session that will offer an assortment of discipline-unique discussion topics for the audience to consider and provide feedback.
 
Luck Stone’s Rockville Quarry welcomed members from the Virginia Science Education Leadership Association (VESLA) for an in-depth tour of their aggregate operation. This tour served as the kick-off for the VESLA 2024 Spring Meeting in Short Pump. The group consisted of about 20 science coordinators and other Department of Education officials.

VTCA is seeking submissions from Contractor Members for the VTCA Contractor Safety Awards. Through the annual VTCA Transportation Contractor Safety Award Program, the Alliance is proud to recognize its contractor members who successfully demonstrate their commitment to a safe and healthy working environment. 
The Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance provides financial assistance to help deserving young individuals pursuing education in college or technical education programs that may lead to the transportation construction industry. The scholarships have a value of $5,000 and three scholarships are awarded annually.
 
This June, three members of the Contractor Leadership Committee (CLC) will complete their terms, and the CLC is currently soliciting VTCA Contractor members interested in serving on the committee.  The CLC will review the interest of candidates and identify three candidates to serve a three-year term. Those selected to replace the three expiring terms will begin their tenure in July 2024.

Under the 1972 Brooks Act, contracts for architecture and engineering services that are directly related to a construction project and that utilize federal funding must foster open competition. This is achieved by advertising, ranking, selecting, and negotiating contracts based on demonstrated competence and qualifications for the specific engineering and design services being procured, all while ensuring a fair and reasonable price.
The U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) announced significant revisions to the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program on April 9, aimed at modernizing its administration.

The Virginia State Water Control Board and the Department of Environmental Quality have completed the periodic review of 9VAC25-190. Virginia Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (VPDES) General Permit Regulation for Nonmetallic Mineral Mining regulation. The updated regulation will go into effect on July 1, 2024.
