This year’s Aggregate Producer Safety Seminars will offer a wide range of important safety topics. Along with presentations from industry and health care professionals, MSHA and the Virginia Department of Energy – Mineral Mining Program will provide updates as to what’s new with the Regulatory Agencies.
  
At the request of our Associates Leadership Committee, VTCA has been in talks with VDOT to address some industrial materials issues that have not been addressed in other co-ops.  After several months of discussions, VTCA and VDOT held its first co-op in late October. 
  
On October 26-27, VTCA hosted a booth at the Mission Tomorrow event put on by Chamber RVA at the Richmond Raceway.

VTCA has worked to create an interactive map that shows the locations of all VTCA Member’s aggregate plants, sales yards, and asphalt plants. Our interactive map has been in development for over a year and VTCA is pleased to announce that on November 1 the map was launched and is now live!
On October 20-21, VTCA conducted our Board Retreat in Blacksburg, VA. The Board Retreat included a tour for VTCA Board Members and staff of the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute’s (VTTI) Smart Road and a the recently renovated Holden Hall.
Last year VTCA and VA Tech Mining and Minerals Engineering conceived and conducted the first ever “Blast Day” for Virginia Tech freshman engineering students. Following the success of last year, VT and VTCA looked to expand the Blast Day opportunity. This year, there was enough interest to conduct two Blast Days.
With over 200 attendees at the NOVA District Dialogue, VTCA considered this event an incredible win for the industry!

Registration is now open for the 2023 TCMI program, marking over three decades of training Virginia’s transportation industry’s emerging leaders.
Jameo Pollock has been selected as the Assistant Division Administrator for Workforce Development, effective November 10, 2022. 
When asked an open-ended question about the biggest long-term challenge facing the Washington region, transportation was the top response at 26%.
VDOT’s Materials Division maintains and regularly updates a list of approved materials for use on agency construction and maintenance projects.
