Quarry of the Future Symposium Update

In early March, Virginia Tech School of Mining and Minerals Engineering conducted a symposium on the Quarry of the Future. The forum explored the future of the aggregates industry, discussing technology changes and anticipating what is to come. Hosted by Built for The Mine, this event was designed to inspire forward-thinking professionals to anticipate and embrace technology and industry evolution.

Many VTCA members attended and contributed content to the discussions. Most of the interest in future technology is centered around artificial intelligence and autonomous machinery. Included in the discussions was ongoing research and advances in aggregate fines utilization and technologies employed in other industries.

This forum was successful and many of those that attended were in favor of future similar events.

Special thanks go out to Dr. Erik Westman, VT and Travis Chewning, Luck Stone VP Engineering & Operations Support for conceiving, developing, and facilitating this great event.
