VTCA Members Join NSSGA for Hill Day

The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association held their annual Legislative and Policy Forum in DC last week. NSSGA had several great presentations and events associated with the Forum, but the highlight of the conference was the Hill Day Capitol Hill visits by aggregate producers. NSSGA orchestrated over 200 meetings for members to meet with legislators from their respective states.

The Virginia delegation comprised of 14 individuals from 5 producer members and VTCA. Our group was led by Luck Stone’s Doug Palmore, and we had meetings with 6 legislators.

Our meetings with Sen. Kaine, Del. Wittman, and Del. Cline were in person with the Senator and the Delegates respectively, the other meetings were with legislative aids.

The entire NSSGA delegation carried the unified messages of environmental permitting relief, effective implementation for IIJA funding, freight rail reform, workforce concerns, gas tax suspension and materials preference initiatives. Senator Kaine Offers Immigration Assistance

As part of NSSGA Hill Day, the Virginia delegation met with Senator Tim Kaine. One of our topics of discussion with Senator Kaine centered around workforce shortages and immigration reform as an aid to increasing the workforce pool. As discussion progressed, Senator Kaine offered assistance from his office to any Virginia employers that have workers that are experiencing immigration issues.
