ACSR Spotlight - Teresa Evans

Teresa Evans of Grayson-Carroll-Wythe Mutual Insurance Company in Galax began her career in insurance while in high school. During her junior year at Galax High School, there was an opening at Grayson-Carroll-Wythe when they were merged with another company. Teresa began working there part-time during the merger as the office secretary. After graduating from high school she was hired full-time. Teresa is currently the assistant secretary/treasurer and a producer at Grayson-Carroll-Wythe Mutual Insurance Company specializing in personal lines.

In 1985, Teresa obtained both her Property & Casualty and Life & Health licenses. With both licenses under her belt, she moved into a producer role at the agency along with her other duties. In 2008, Teresa decided to pursue the ACSR designation. She now holds both the personal and commercial lines ACSR designations. Pursuing the ACSR designation allowed her to gain additional knowledge on insurance products and the industry which she would not have otherwise obtained.

It is no surprise why Teresa made a career out of insurance. When asked what her favorite part of working in the insurance industry was she responded; "There are many things I enjoy about working in insurance. I love that it is a constantly changing industry. I enjoy working with the customers to find the best coverage for the lowest premium available. And it is rewarding to become close to your customers and become a small part of their lives." This attitude towards her profession is why Teresa received the Who’s Who in Executives & Professionals award in 2004.

Outside of the office, Teresa is busy with many different activities. She loves to play tennis, shop, take zumba classes and travel. She is very active within her church, Hillcrest Baptist, helping out with youth programs on several levels. Family is also important to Teresa. She has been married to her husband, Terry Evans, for 29 years. Together they have three boys: Deston, 26, Terrance & Ashland, 23. All three have graduated from college and one is attending Virginia Commonwealth University to pursue a graduate degree. None of them are in the insurance industry, but will hopefully have a great future in their own fields of business.
