Recently elected Congressman Robert Hurt called IIAV after being appointed to the Financial Services Committee and Insurance and Banking Subcommittee and wanted input on legislation before Congress. Several measures of concern to IIAV members are indeed before his committee and Congress including: NARAB II – HR 1112 (just introduced the week before), a proposal to respond to reciprocity issues for agents licensed in multiple states; HR 1206, a proposal to exclude agent commissions from Medical Loss Ratios; Flood Reauthorization; Health Care Reform overall and continued Optional Federal Charter Proposals.

Congressman Hurt was most interested in how the insurance agents were handling the current economy and what their concerns were with introduced legislation. He was especially interested in the agents' views on flood reauthorization, a program that is currently $18 billion in debt.

IIAV’s Legislative Chairman Pettus LeCompte attended the meeting on behalf of IIAV agents statewide and thought the meeting was especially enlightening. "It sure is nice when they call and ask for the opinion of those most affected by specific legislation – I’m glad that IIAV was able to respond quickly to his request. I believe it was an especially productive meeting that went a lot longer than I had anticipated."

Those attending included (not in order: Joe Jenkins with Hanckel Citizens, Robert Short with Short Insurance, Christopher Powell with BB&T Insurance, Mike Powell with Bankers Insurance, Daryl Russell with Bankers Insurance, Marshall Fleming with Bankers Insurance, Walt Lyons with Bankers Insurance, Pettus LeCompte with SIL Insurance and Joe Hudgins and Bob Bradshaw with IIAV.
