2011 IIAV Convention and Trade Show

It is difficult to grasp that our 113th Annual Convention at The Homestead is less than three months away! All of the preliminary work as been done, speakers are in place and most of the behind the scenes "stuff" is taking shape. I believe we have one of the strongest programs we have had in years. Robert Sutter, Tom Minkler and Virginia Commissioner of Insurance Jacqueline Cunningham "headline" our speakers. In addition to the multiple CE choices on both Monday and Tuesday afternoon, we have two excellent breakout sessions on Tuesday morning. Lauren Berry and Peter Wilcox of The Travelers will discuss the insurance opportunities presented by renewable energy; at the same time Matt McHatten of MMG Group will discuss the insurance consumer of the future.

Our trade show will be packed with vendors anxious to help you improve both the profitability and efficiency of your agency. As I write this on March 25th, 50 of the 60 booths are taken. As usual there will be plenty of door prizes and other fun things to fill your trade show tote bag.

Since last month’s newsletter we have contracted with the Kier to provide Tuesday evening’s entertainment. You’ll come to Kier’s show for the impressions but you’ll leave going, "That guy’s hilarious!" The smart blend of standup and spot-on musical impressions makes this show a unique and lively experience. Between corporate events, cruise ships, universities and comedy club shows, Kier has literally been all over the world, including entertaining the troops in Europe, Asia and The Persian Gulf. He has worked with such greats as Reba McEntire, Oprah Winfrey, Ronnie Milsap, Kevin Bacon and many others.

Along with his singing impressions, a highlight of Kier’s show is his History of Rock Guitar Riffs which is always a show stopper. Kier’s impressions include Sting, U2, Dave Matthews, Springsteen, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Waylon & Willie, Tom Petty, Prince, Barry White, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Neil Young and others.

Don’t forget, convention is also a time to kick back and have some fun. This year’s events include golf, bowling, skeet shooting and fly fishing. If none of those suits you, The Homestead has many other activities to occupy your spare time.

We still have sponsorships available, so please contact me or Teri Chester for more information. Of course, you can go to our website and register for your sponsorship which will give your organization excellent visibility at the convention. Our lineup of speakers, breakouts, classes and fun will guarantee that the convention will be well attended by agency principals and managers.

Don’t miss the opportunity and fun!! See you at The Homestead!!
