Alice Clements was not sure what she was getting herself into when she took a position at Hanckel Citizens Insurance Corp, in Charlottesville, VA. All she knew was that she needed a change and this new position would provide her with that. So in 1959, Alice began working at Hanckel Citizens as the office secretary, filing and typing policies. About 10 years later, Alice became a licensed P&C agent. She stayed in this role specializing in personal lines until she retired in 2000. Alice continues to work one day a month for Hanckel Citizens.

Shortly after the ACSR designation was initiated in 1988, Alice decided to pursue it. She completed the designation with an emphasis in personal lines. Going through the ACSR program proved to be very helpful. She enjoyed getting to meet many wonderful people and being able to learn important information that she could use on a daily basis as an agent to help her customers. Alice also earned her CPIW through NAIW.

Professionally, Alice was active on IIAV’s ACSR committee and with NAIW. She served on the ACSR committee for numerous years and still enjoys attending IIAV’s Annual ACSR Tribute Day. Alice was a member of the NAIW Charlottesville chapter until it disbanded. She is now a member at large. Being part of these groups allowed Alice to meet new people, learn new ideas and grow professionally.

Having worked hard all her life, Alice now enjoys being able to finally relax and once again enjoy the smaller things in life such as sitting down with a good book. She has a life of leisure that everyone strives for one day. Alice has been an avid traveler but now prefers short day trips to places like Washington, DC. She goes to church on Sundays and participates in various events through the church. Alice is also active with her local senior center.

Family is also very important to Alice. She has one sister, as well as several nephews and a niece. Most of the family still resides in Charlottesville but she does have one niece in Texas and a nephew in Alabama. All in all, Alice is living life to the fullest and enjoying every moment of it.
