Jonathan Cadle Joins Shockey As Senior Vice President

Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. announced today a significant addition to its senior leadership team: Jonathan Cadle has been named Senior Vice President.

Cadle joins Shockey from Hitt Contracting, Inc. where he served as Vice President. In his new leadership role at Shockey, Cadle will oversee all construction operations for the 124-year-old company and will be responsible for ensuring that the highest levels of systems and processes are in place. Cadle will focus on maintaining ongoing client and subcontractor relationships, as well as training and attracting top industry talent to develop and manage high-functioning project teams.

Nationwide Coronavirus Safety Stand Down on Thursday April 9th

AGCVA and AGC of America would like to invite your firm to participate in a nationwide coronavirus safety stand down we are organizing for this Thursday, April 9th. This event – set for anytime you want on Thursday, will encourage member firms, to participate in the coronavirus safety stand down to make sure everyone on their projects knows, and follows, all appropriate coronavirus safety guidelines. While the primary objective of this effort is to make sure firms are doing everything possible to protect workers, we also need to reassure the broader public, and government officials, that the industry can continue to operate in a way that does not increase the spread of the coronavirus.

IRS tax filing in wake of pandemic

Though the IRS has not extended the filing deadline for tax returns, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on March 17, 2020 that individuals and businesses will be able to defer tax payments for 90 days. Individuals can defer up to $1 million in tax payments and corporations up to $10 million in tax payments. The deferred payments will not incur interest or penalty charges. The move comes after President Trump’s Oval Office address on March 10, when he said he would be instructing the Treasury Department to defer tax payments for those affected by COVID-19.

The Roanoke District Connecting for Success Event held last month was mentioned in the Roanoke Business Partners Newsletter. The Roanoke Workforce Solutions Committee, led by Rob Leonard with F&S Building Innovations, hosted the event and was attended by 80+ people including AGCVA members, community workforce solutions resources, education administration, and career and technical directors/instructors.

With support from Roanoke County Economic Development and others, the Associated General Contractors of Virginia brought together representatives from construction, economic development, workforce agencies, CTE leaders and more at a Workforce Solutions event.

Congratulations to Perry Engineering on Winning CSEA Award

AGC of Virginia is proud to recognize Perry Engineering and Winchester Precast, members of the AGC of Virginia chapter since 1952 and 2018 respectively,and 2020 recipients of the AGC CSEA Awards (CSEA; Construction, Safety, Excellence Award).

“We are very excited about the recent CSEA awards for both Perry Engineering and Winchester Precast. To have both companies win safety awards at a national level is phenomenal. This was the 2nd year in a row for Perry Engineering. We’ve put a tremendous amount of effort into the safety programs for both companies and we’re proud of what our employees have accomplished. The Richmond District Young Leaders held their first virtual happy hour with 12 people that participated on the call. There were a lot of good conversations amongst our members about working remotely, jobsite safety and what the “new normal” looks like now.
