Richmond-based Atlantic Constructors Inc. (ACI) named Evan Shriver as its CEO. Shriver most recently served as ACI’s executive vice president of construction operations. He joined the company in 2013, and prior to that he worked for other mechanical contractors such as Allentown, Pennsylvania-based H.T. Lyons Inc. and Rockingham County-based Riddleberger Brothers Inc. In total, he has more than 15 years of experience in the construction industry.

Shriver is a Virginia registered professional engineer and has a certificate of management in lean construction, is LEED-accredited and is an ASSE-certified medical gas inspector. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in business administration from James Madison University.

There was a time not too long ago when a high school diploma was sufficient to land a job with a family-sustaining wage and lasting security. But due to a changing economy and the rapid and often disruptive emergence of technology over the past 30 years, a high school diploma no longer is enough to guarantee a meaningful career. That’s evidenced by the 2.6 million jobs in Virginia that will need to be filled by 2026 that don’t require a bachelor’s degree but do require some form of post-secondary educational attainment — be it an associate degree, certificate or short-term workforce credential. The problem is Virginia is not generating nearly enough qualified workers in high-demand fields to fill these “middle-skill” jobs.

DGS will present a Panel Discussion followed by breakout sessions examining joint issues. DGS staff will discuss better communication methods during the construction and design process while inviting key stakeholders to discuss what is presently working.

The Roanoke District has brought back their Lunch N Learns. Spencer Wiegard (Gentry Locke) and Tim Walker (HSH) presented to a sold out room “How to Handle an OSHA Inspection.” 

Ben Zimmerman of Procon, Inc. said “this was a very helpful class for our team. I’m certain that the knowledge gained will serve us well.” We are happy to bring this lunch time knowledge back to the Roanoke District.
