PlanGrid is strengthening its relationship with file hosting service Dropbox to allow the app's users to access and use a broad range of tools and platforms, according to the company.
The move aims to increase ease of collaboration and efficiency among project stakeholders through better connected technology.

PlanGrid's integration with Dropbox allows users to upload and transfer plans from PlanGrid's app to Dropbox, and vice versa, where files, design plans and other project documents can be accessed from any device or platform in real time. The partnership also aims to reduce the need for rework by providing a mechanism for having the most up-to-date files available across project stakeholders.

In the first six months of the current fiscal year — July 1 through Dec. 31, 2017 — economic development project activity more than doubled in the Southern region.

“We have seen a big upswing in the number of prospect visits,” says Linda Green, executive director of the Southern Virginia Regional Alliance, which covers a region stretching along the North Carolina line from Patrick through Halifax counties. “We’re seeing more mature projects where the average wage is higher.”

John Paul DiMarco - Richmond District YCL Chairman
John Paul graduated East Carolina University in 2011 with a BS in Construction Management and a Minor in Business Administration. Following graduation, he moved to New York and worked for Newmark Knight Frank; a company he had a previous summer internship with. In 2013, moved to Richmond and worked for Kjellstrom and Lee up until several months ago, when he joined The Capstone Contracting Company as a Project Manager. John Paul has been with Capstone Contracting for five months, however his time with the AGC Richmond District Young Leaders exceeds my current position. He joined the AGCYL committee in 2015 and helped organize a project tour at the Valentine History Museum. That same year the AGCYL hosted our first Pig & Oyster Roast. The event was a huge success and raised a large sum of money for the Wounded Warrior Project, which we were all very proud of. Later this year, we intend to host the fourth installment.  John Pauls main goal for the Young Leaders in 2018 is to facilitate great events that allow people to network, learn about our industry, and perform community outreach in a fun and inviting atmosphere.

Danny Lee - Tidewater District YCL Chairman
A Virginia Beach native and a proud graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s degree in Building Construction. He held several internships during summer breaks and have worked in Construction Management since graduation. Currently, a Project Manager for W.M. Jordan Company and have managed several diverse projects throughout the Tidewater area.  Danny has been involved with the Tidewater AGC Young Leaders for several years now and in 2017, took over as the Chairman of the Young Leaders group. The Tidewater AGC Young Leaders has a great deal of participation and attendance from new and familiar members with an average attendance of 50 young professionals. Our goal is to continue to improve on the successful groundwork laid in previous years. We have a tremendous amount of expectations for our organization with a focus on education and community service.  This year, we have 12 events for our Young Leaders group from February through November. In addition to our staple Membership Drive events and various competitive tournaments, we’ve mixed in professional development, educational, and multiple service-oriented events. Along with the Tidewater AGC, we'll also be supporting the Skills USA Competition in Virginia Beach. A huge part of our success is attributed to sponsorships from Tidewater AGC member companies. Without these companies’ support we would not be able to provide the quality, quantity, and variety of events to our Young Leaders.

The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry is celebrating 2018 as its 80th year in administration of the Registered Apprenticeship Program.  We serve all types of employers, private companies, and local state and federal governments, non or not for profit companies, Unions or Joint Apprenticeship Training Committees, sole proprietors, or groups serving as intermediary sponsors.

We serve all types of industries given their occupations meet the requirements of the guidance from our federal and state regulations.  The most familiar occupations using Registered Apprenticeship (RA) are the building trades and the personal service trades.  Electricians, bricklayers, plumbers, ironworkers, carpenters, HVAC mechanics are some of the building trade occupations.  Barber, cosmetologist, nail technician are some in the latter category.  Emerging occupations are daycare teachers, Cybersecurity technicians, cooks, water authority technicians, brewmasters, investigators and more coming each year.

YOU, as the employer might have a need for an occupation that you have not been used to seeing in the apprenticeship arena.  We can assist you in developing that occupation, if appropriate to meet the pipeline needs you have.

The benefits to bringing the RA model into your business plans are:

·         Apprenticeship fosters loyalty

·         Apprenticeship boosts retention

·         Apprenticeship provides higher return on investment

·         Apprenticeship can be a critical element of succession planning

Trends are showing that this current generation of workers, the millennials are boldly seeking professional development in their work life.  We like to think that job seekers who are actively engaged in their career development turn into engaged employees.  RA offers that development and thus can be a recruitment tool.
