The Central District held their popular Legislative Luncheon and were hosted by Southern Air. State Senator Mark Peake had a candid discussion with the attendees and while this Session was known for its news drama, Senator Peake reminded members the legislators got lots of issues addressed.
One of the most important and concerning bills to AGCVA and our industry is The Statute of Limitations (HB 1667/SB1367) this would have created a statute of limitations on public construction projects, made substantial progress in the General Assembly this year, but ultimately would fail in a House of Delegates Appropriations Subcommittee controlled by Delegate Chris Jones. Senator Peake spoke of the diligent work that Gordon Dixon, Herschel Keller (Gentry Locke) and Scott Kowalski (Petty, Livingston, Dawson & Richards) and others have dedicated to the fight for this.

SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference was the place to be on April 13th. High school students from around Virginia came to the Tidewater area to put their skills to the test in carpentry, cabinetmaking, plumbing, electrical wiring, and more. These students, who have been preparing since the fall of 2018, beat out their fellow classmates and local competition to be able to compete for the state champion title. With most construction competitions being conducted and judged by AGCVA members, students are exposed to professional feedback and guidance and our members were able to make connections with career and technical educators.
