PROJECT SPOTLIGHT:
MEB’s recently completed $120M improvement to
HRSD’s Virginia Initiative Plant in Norfolk, VA

On February 20th, MEB General Contractors, HRSD and HDR presented a Project Spotlight on HRSD’s Virginia Initiative Plant in Norfolk. MEB recently completed $120 million in improvements with unique construction features including:  Forty-seven miles of steel and concrete piles, a 200 foot by 100 foot by 40-foot-deep cofferdam, over 100,000 cubic yards of soils excavated, structures with 4-foot thick concrete walls, 108” diameter prestressed concrete cylinder pipe, miles of underground utilities, 40,000 CY of concrete, 5,500 tons of rebar, complete replacement of the facility electrical distribution system, and numerous process mechanical systems including 600 horsepower pumps capable of pumping 33 million gallons of water a day.
 
After the presentation and tour of the facility, members met at Bold Mariner Brewery down the street where they enjoyed networking over some beers and barbeque!
