The Franklin Johnston Group has plans to turn 10 acres near Witchduck Road into 264 apartments. Last week, City Council designated 91 acres of land around it a revitalization area to help the development company get special financing.

Another large apartment complex has been proposed near Massaponax, continuing a recent trend in that part of Spotsylvania County. In recent years, Spotsylvania supervisors have approved several mixed-use developments that include plans for about 2,700 apartments. For instance, plans for the Jackson Village development next to Cosner’s Corner call for 695 apartments.

In April 2012, a Navy F-18 jet crashed into the apartments. Many referred to the incident as a a "Good Friday miracle," because no one was killed in the crash, including the flight crew.
