At our last meeting in January, our Speaker was Carol Davis, the Sustainability Manager for the Town of Blacksburg. She spoke to the membership about Blacksburg’s Climate Action Program, Recycling and initiatives for Apartment Communities. She also spoke about the Georgetown University Energy Prize that would award $5 million, to advance the sustainability goals, to the community that showed the most growth in the area of energy efficiency. The competition will span two years, and entries are limited to small and medium-sized towns and cities. It is designed to tap the imagination, creativity, and spirit of competition and to foster innovative approaches to energy efficiency. This will be accomplished by educating the public and engaging students in energy issues, growing markets for products and services that facilitate a clean energy future. According to Davis, Blacksburg is well-positioned to be a leader in the field!
