VTRC Names McGhee Associate Director of Research-Pavement

On July 10, 2017, Kevin K. McGhee, P.E. was named Associate Director of Research-Pavement by VTRC.  McGhee will be responsible for all pavement related research to include asphalt materials.  He has been with the Virginia Transportation Research Council since 1993.  Most recently, McGhee was an Associate Principal Scientist leading research on construction quality assurance, acceptance, and payment practices. He has also studied concrete pavement repair, application of advanced composites, bridge and pavement management, pavement preservation, and general traveled surface properties. 
 
Before joining VDOT McGhee was a structural design engineer for Dewberry Engineering.  He received his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree from the University of Virginia.  He has held a professional engineer’s license in Virginia since 1995.

McGhee has served as the Executive Secretary for VDOT’s Asphalt Research Advisory Committee since 2011.  He is also a nationally recognized leader in the study of traveled surface characteristics, recently serving six-year terms as chair for ASTM’s Committee E-17 on Vehicle-Pavement Interaction and the Transportation Research Board’s Committee on Surface Properties – Vehicle Interaction (AFD90).
