New Initiatives Planned For 2019

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

With the new year upon us and 2019 MCS Certification classes underway, the VECAT staff has already moved on to several new initiatives planned for 2019 and beyond. Although most of these projects are in their infancy, we wanted to give you a quick peek at what is to come.

**Cold Recycling Classes Added to VDOT’s MCS Certification Program**
Starting in 2020, Cold Asphalt Recycling - Field, Cold Asphalt Recycling – Plant, and Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) classes will be offered through VECAT and will therefore be eligible for MCS Certification. Classes are being developed this winter and pilot classes for each are expected to be offered in late fall 2019. Watch the VECAT online homepage as well as this newsletter for additional information to come on these new classes.

**Mix Design Re-Certification Class Soon Available Online**
In response to inquiries about the ability to complete the MCS Mix Design class online, VDOT has adjusted their policy. Starting in mid-2019, anyone who currently holds an active certification that will expire in 2019 will be able to take the course online. Online Mix Design materials (i.e., manuals and demonstration videos) will be finalized during the spring and will be available online for registration by summer. Please note, online students will be required to secure their own versions of the ASTM and AASHTO specifications related to this class. VECAT will not be providing these specifications online due to copyright issues. Watch the VECAT online homepage as well as this newsletter for additional information to come on these new classes.
