VDOT Chief Engineer Announces 2019 Retirement

On Wednesday, October 10, VDOT’s Chief Engineer Garrett Moore confirmed his impending retirement at the Discussion with the Department meeting. While not leaving until September 2019, his announcement allows VDOT time to transition his duties and impart knowledge on his replacement.
 
Garrett joined VDOT in 1999 after retiring from the US Marine Corps as a Lt. Colonel. As a UC-Berkeley (Bachelor’s Degree) and Virginia Tech (Master’s Degree) Graduate, he started his career at VDOT as an Assistant Resident Engineer in Fredericksburg. From Fredericksburg, he moved on to be the Resident Engineer in Warrenton, Staunton District Administrator, and NOVA District, Administrator. In 2013, he was named VDOT’s Chief Engineer. Through all of his positions in VDOT, Garrett has been committed to working with industry and emphasizing the need for quality in all aspects of maintenance and construction
 
Over the next 11 months, VAA looks forward to continuing the relationship with Garrett and his staff as well as those chosen to replace him. He has set the tenor and the example for effective VDOT and industry partnership. VAA would like to congratulate Garrett on his 2nd retirement and wish him the best in his future endeavors.
