Congratulations to Lane Construction Corp. for being chosen one of the top Design-Build Transportation projects of 2018. They were the General Contractor on the I-66/Route 15 Interchange Reconstruction. Both of these VAA members were chosen as top 2018 Design-Build projects in Transportation by the Design Build Institute of America.

I-66/Route 15 Interchange Reconstruction Design-Build Project

This project reconstructed the Interstate 66 (I-66) / Route 15 interchange in Prince William County, Virginia, to relieve congestion, enhance public safety, improve operations, bolster capacity and accommodate forecasted traffic demand in the project area. It redesigned the interchange as a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) — the first of its kind in the region — to best accommodate the projected traffic volumes as well as critical pedestrian movements in the interchange area.

I-64 Capacity Improvements Segment I

Shirley Contracting Company LLC successfully completed the $101 million I-64 Capacity Improvements Segment I Design-Build project for the Virginia Department of Transportation in December 2017. The project entailed the median widening of approximately five miles of I-64 in Newport News, Va., adding a new travel lane and full-width shoulder in each direction, replacing or widening of six bridges; and construction of over 200,000 square feet of noise barrier. The Shirley/Dewberry Team utilized its extensive experience working together on past design-build projects to meet the aggressive 25-month project schedule.
