VOSH Sticks with Silica Enforcement Date

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

Recently, the VAA was contacted by Virginia’s Department of Labor and Industry about the Silica Regulation enforcement. While the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has delayed the enforcement of the regulation until September 23, 2017, Virginia’s Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH) will begin enforcing the regulation on June 23. For construction activities covered under Table 1 of the regulation, contractors that adhere to Table 1 Control Methods will not be required to perform additional monitoring. If an activity is covered under Table 1 and the contractor does not follow the engineered control method, then a plan and respiratory monitoring is required.
