Springtime means many things – flowers, cherry blossoms, paving, and the VAA Annual Meeting. The 66th VAA Annual Meeting holds special significance – it will celebrate the career of Executive Vice President Richard J. Schreck. At the conclusion of the meeting, Richard will retire from VAA after a nearly 36 year career. To celebrate this accomplishment, the meeting will include a retirement banquet and party on Thursday April 27th.

During the Annual Meeting, the VAA will be hosting technical sessions with VDOT and several recreational activities. On Thursday morning, VAA members will be interacting with Virginia Secretary of Transportation Aubrey L. Layne, Jr. and VDOT Senior Management on a variety of issues. Chief Engineer Garrett Moore will be discussing quality and future transportation projects; State Construction Engineer Kerry Bates will be covering specification development and construction division initiatives; and State Materials Engineer Andy Babish will outline the new pavement design procedure, materials changes and recycling. Following the morning technical sessions, meeting attendees can choose to play golf, fish, shoot sporting clays, or just relax prior to the retirement banquet. On Friday morning, VDOT Commissioner Charlie Kilpatrick will address the meeting attendees. The Commissioner will talk future directions and funding for transportation in Virginia. Following his presentation, VAA Director of Training and Development Carter Iseman will discuss the status of VECAT and future plans. Along with Carter, Mr. Blake Rogers of Colony Construction will give his experience with training employees through the VECAT on-line system.
