VECAT is Coming to Visit

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

If you will remember back to the February "VECAT: Embracing Change and the Opportunity to Learn" feature, we talked about the changes already seen in the 2017 class agendas, materials and final exams. As a recap to this article, we remind you that with any new endeavor, there are always things that go well, while others require additional attention. Our classroom students from Field and Plant classes, Mix Design, Surface Treatment and Slurry Seal gave us much appreciated feedback, and we implemented as much as we could in the short turnaround period between classes. Now we want to hear more.

Starting in April, Carter Iseman, VAA’s Director of Training and Development, will be hitting the road to visit companies throughout the state on behalf of VECAT. The goal of this Road Show is to further introduce VECAT to employers and students alike, and to explain the What’s, Why’s and How’s regarding its processes. We want to make sure you are aware of the classes and resources that are available to you, where to register online and how, what student information is required to register and why, the differences between the classroom, online and satellite training options, and what it takes to be successful in class. Other topics for discussion will include a review of both the VECAT Apprenticeship Program and the VAA Scholarship Program, an explanation of how the WCG Grant Program works in conjunction with VECAT courses, and discussion of any questions you have outstanding.

We know that changes made to VDOT's former MCS training program, and even changes made to the VECAT program since last year, are numerous. We see these changes as positives though as we work toward a robust training program that sets Virginia apart from other states containing similar programs. You are instrumental in this process, and we want to hear your feedback and questions while also establishing an open line of communication between you, your company and the VECAT office.

** If you would like to ensure that your company location is on the list for a spring visit from Carter, please send an email request to be added to the list to ciseman@vaasphalt.com. You will be notified in the upcoming weeks to set a convenient date and time for a visit. **
