Meet Dave Laraway, the VECAT Coordinator who manages the large quantities of work required behind-the-scenes to keep the VECAT program running smoothly. Based at Germanna’s Culpeper campus, Dave stays busy helping to coordinate online classes, schedule tests for students at VCCS test centers, maintaining course progress reports and enrollment statistics, maintaining certification records, proctoring exams, implementing ongoing program deliverables and working with both companies and students through phone, email and screen casts to help them acclimate to the program.

Born and raised in Albany, N.Y., Dave has had a diverse educational and employment career, including eight years with the Navy where he served during the Gulf War as a surface sonar technician and an electronics technician. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Dave started a career as a commercial/industrial electrician and later moved on to become a closed landfill manager/technician for the City of Waynesboro Public works. Interest and experience in the electrical industry propelled him to pursue a degree in Computer and Electronics Technology, where he eventually obtained a BS in Business Administration with a Project Management Specialization. Dave is now currently working to obtain his Master of Science in Information Technology with an IT Management specialization at Southern New Hampshire University.

A talented musician, Dave owns and operates Piercing Light Studios out of his home in his spare time. His self-recorded music has a Christian Rock vibe, and can be found online under the names A.D. 30 and his newest release, None To Late.

When asked about his favorite part of working with VECAT, Dave states that he most enjoys the opportunity to work with VAA, Germanna and VDOT in developing a more in-depth online & classroom Asphalt Material Certification program.
