VAA Annual Meeting at Pinehurst Resort

Thursday morning kicks off with a series of VDOT and VAA presentations.  The VDOT presentations will be given by Commissioner Charlie Kilpatrick and Chief Deputy Commissioner Quintin Elliott who will discuss the state of the transportation program and the impacts of recent state legislation and the Federal FAST Act.  Ed Dalrymple (President Chemung Contracting) and Trenton Clark (VAA Director of Engineering) will update meeting attendees on the progress of the Virginia Education Center for Asphalt Technology (VECAT) and next steps to:

• Revise the asphalt-related Materials Certification Program; 
• Develop new training classes focused on recycling and reclamation; and
• Initiate apprenticeship and associate’s degree semester classes for asphalt technology.

Following the morning sessions, the VAA recreation activities will be held.  Many of the attendees will be participating in the golf tournament that will be held on the Pinehurst #8 golf course with a 1:30 p.m. modified shotgun start.  Other attendees will visit a local sporting clays facility to compete and hone their shooting skills.  Concluding the first full day of the meeting will be the VAA Banquet.  The meeting will feature two important functions.  First, the passing of the gavel from the 2015 President Dennis O’Connor – Virginia Paving Company, to 2016 President Ken Arthur – Boxley, will occur.  Second, the VAA will welcome the first three recipients of the VAA Scholarship.  Each scholarship will be valued at $5,000 and the winners will be recognized by Scholarship Committee Chairman Scott Claud (Colony Construction). 

The second day of the Annual Meeting will be the member’s only meeting.  During this meeting, functions such as confirmation of the 2016 Board of Directors and Executive Committee will be made as well as discussing the general business of the association.  Following the member’s only meeting, a brief meeting of the new board of directors will be held to conclude the Annual Meeting.
