CREF is pleased to announce that two awardees have been selected for this year’s University Scholarship. Advancing research on composting and compost use is core to CREF’s mission, and this year we’re excited to highlight research that addresses timely and relevant questions on compost utilization:

Gboyega Adebayo, from North Carolina State University, seeks to determine the optimal compost screen size for use on compacted urban soils and quantify the effects of varying application rates on soil hydrological properties.

Siyu Luo, from the University of California, Santa Cruz, will be simulating farmer responses to compost use incentives and estimating the resulting impacts on soil carbon sequestration.

We look forward to updating the composting community on the research findings when the projects conclude next summer. The awardees are also expected to speak on their project results at the USCC’s annual conference in 2027. If you want to join us in sponsoring young researchers to achieve leading research for the composting industry, please consider donating to the University Scholarship program.
